The Star System
Green Star- Making Great Choices!
Yellow Star- Making mostly good choices-receives warning, 5 min. off recess to practice better choices.
Red Star- Making poor choices, lost recess to practice good choices and complete unfinished work, possible call/email home.
*Check your child's folder everyday for the weekly newsletter and behavior chart. Your child will color in a star based on the color they were on by the end of each day. Keep in mind, they always have the opportunity to earn their star back to green at anytime by changing their behavior.
* I like to incorporate think time. When a child is needing a break and perhaps their behavior is distracting themselves, their classmates, or their teacher, I will ask them to take "think time one". This is when they remove themselves from the group and take a minute to reflect on their choices. If they return to the group and continue to distract others in a negative way, I will ask them to take "think time two". This is the same as think time one only they take two minutes and they move their star to yellow. After reflecting on their behavior, before returning to the group, they will need to tell me what they need to do to change their behavior. If they get to "think time three", they will need to move their star to red and may be required to go to the office or another classroom to complete a behavior reflection sheet.
