I want to begin by thanking you for coming to fall conferences.  I really enjoy having the opportunity to share all of the wonderful things your child is learning at school.  With that said, let’s dive right into what we are focusing on for each subject area.

Reading:  In reading, we have officially kicked off our reading stations after a recent round of testing.  In shared read, we are focusing on the main idea of a story with two supporting details.  I will be assessing your child in reading throughout the year.  This is so your child will be reading at their just right level all year long.

Math:  In math, we have jumped into our Everyday Math curriculum.  We are learning about tallies, pennies, nickels, time to the hour, one more than, one less than, and simple addition and subtraction on the number line.  We are also doing Daily Math Review again this year.  Look out for the Friday quizzes.   These quizzes are focused on our priority standards and I use this data to further help students by putting them in a small group or give them one on one support as needed.

Writing:  In writing, just finished our penmanship.  We have now launched into writer’s workshop.  We are focusing on personal narrative (small moment) writing.  We love writing stories about ourselves, family and friends.  We are also practicing reading our writing to our class through author share.  We enjoy listening to our friends fun stories.

Social Studies:  In social studies, we are about to wrap up our map skills.  We have been learning about N, S, E, W, difference between a map and a photograph, map keys and so much more.

Volunteer:  If you would like to volunteer in our classroom please send me a note, email or call the school.

Homework:  It will be sent home Monday in a homework packet, no homework on Friday.

              Specialist Schedule:  Monday – Library

                                              Tuesday – PE

                                              Wednesday – Music

                                              Thursday – Music

                                              Friday – PE

Special Events or Birthdays:  Please feel free to help your child celebrate their birthday at school.  Just make sure that if you send a treat, it is store bought and sealed.

Thank you again for a wonderful month of school.  Your continued support and hard work is greatly appreciated.  If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at wate@skitsap.wednet.edu or 360-443-3350.

                                                    Sincerely,

                                                    Ms. Wate
