Schoolwork When Missing School in the IMA

School is missed for a variety of reasons.  It is not  necessary to contact us to obtain work when missing school for short periods of time.  We have found that unless they were here when the assignment was given, it is very difficult for all of the parameters of the assignment to be given.  The following is what they can do in each of the subject areas to help keep up.

Reading – They can continue to read pages to meet their independent reading goal, and read to get ahead.  They can work on their reading response assignment if they were here for the mini-lesson, if not they can do it when they get back.  Working on the monthly book project is also a possibility.

Language – Usually they are working on some sort of a writing project.  If they were here for the assignment, they can continue to work on that.  If not, they can get the assignment when they get back.

Spelling – Continue to follow the two-week rotation.  If the content words are needed, then you can email us, or they can contact a friend.

Math – They can continue to work on their math packet and even work ahead, so when they get back they’ll have more time to focus on the catch-up areas.  They can also study their math facts if needed.

Resource Base – If we are working on a project, they can continue working on that project.  If not, most likely they will have to get caught up when they get back.  Often times this area is difficult to do at home because of the discussions and activities that are going on in class.
