Professional learning is an ongoing process at South Kitsap. Throughout the school year and during the summer, classes are offered to provide staff opportunities to increase their knowledge and skills. College credit and clock hours are available. The primary focus of professional development is to increase student learning by supporting the implementation of quality instruction. Our goal is to see that every teacher has an understanding of the Common Core Standards, Essential Academic Learning Requirements and Grade Level Expectations, and that they also acquire the critical skills to ensure their students reach these standards. In addition, staff members have opportunities to participate in both district level and building-embedded training to support the implementation of instructional materials and the use of effective instructional practices. Training is focused on literacy development, reading and writing in the content areas, mathematics and effective delivery of instruction in the content areas.
