Hello! My name is Mrs. Charlotte Flynn. As Sidney Glen Elementary's Assistant Principal, I am excited to team with the school community of staff, students and families to meet the learning needs of our students! I grew up in a military family and traveled as a child to Germany, three locations in California, Louisiana, and Texas. I earned my college degree in teaching with a specialty in reading at the University of Texas, Austin. After marrying my husband, Bob, I taught in Missoula, Montana, Flagstaff, Arizona, Roseburg, Oregon, and here, in Port Orchard, Washington. I hold a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, a graduate specialization in Reading, and I am a National Board Certified Teacher. I have taught second grade through junior high, worked as a reading specialist for first grade through eighth grade, and collaborated as a Literacy Coach and Instructional Specialist. In the summer of 2007 I represented Washington State as a Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund Scholar. Traveling through Japan I learned about the culture, history, government and educational system of Japan. When I returned to Port Orchard, all 600 of the students at my school enjoyed learning about Japan through five hands-on learning centers that I created. Most recently, I attended the University of Washington Tacoma and earned my School Administration Credentials. I am now a proud UW Husky! I have two grown children who both went to Port Orchard Public Schools. My interests include reading, traveling, outdoor sports such as hiking with our dog, Tricia, kayaking, and swimming, and the creative arts. I enjoy visiting our National Parks and love history. The thrill of rafting wild rapids down the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon with my family for fifteen days was the best vacation of my life. Working with children is a lifelong passion of mine. I love reading with children and finding the perfect match between a child and a book. I look forward to the upcoming year of learning and school fun at Sidney Glen Elementary. Go, Dolphins! | |
