What is Pack?
Pack is a chance for you to get assistance in building the Portfolio you will need to complete as part of your graduation requirements. Pack is time built into the school week (almost every Friday) where students are guided through a series of activities designed to provide career/after high school planning, goal setting and monitoring, college/job resources, and time for students to plan for their future in and out of high school.
Goals of Pack
- To be known both personally and academically, by at least one adult staff member.
- To be supported and challenged to meet academic goals in an appropriate educational program.
- To be assisted with educational planning within a career pathway; to be prepared for his/her post high school plan.
- To be provided with opportunities to experience the benefits of community involvement and to develop and practice good citizenship skills.
So How Does This Work?
Pack consists of a small group (20-25 students) that will meet every Friday from 7:25-8:03, except for on early release or late arrival days. Students are assigned to a staff member and that staff member will most likely be your Advisor for your time here at South Kitsap High School.
By completing the requirements of the portfolio, students will develop a realistic plan to help you be successful in high school and after graduation. You will have the opportunity to share your portfolio and plans with your parents/guardians in the spring in a student led conference.
Is there homework in Pack?
Most activities for Pack will be done during the session. Students' full participation during the session will make it the most meaningful. The old saying "What you put into it is what you get out of it," really applies to Pack. If a student puts in the effort, a quality product will be produced in class. However, there will be some activities which require the creation of a final, typed, product. This will have to be completed on students' own time.
Do I have to go?
Attendance is required as the Portfolio and Senior Portfolio Presentation are a graduation requirement. Any absences will need to be cleared just as any other classroom absence; materials will need to be gathered and activities made up on the students' own time. Being on time is very important as we only have a limited time for each session. There will be no hall passes and students will not be dismissed early.
All high school students will be participating in Pack. Exceptions might be students with partial schedules (the students' counselor notify exempt students.)
Where are the portfolios kept?
The portfolio is housed in your Pack Room. Each Pack Teacher will students know how to access as it is needed. We will have a procedure in place for you to check out your Portfolio should the need arise.
What if I want to switch groups?
Groups have been established and there will be no changes made.
Do I get credit or a grade from Pack?
Yes, you will earn credit and a Pass or Fail grade in Pack. The successful completion of Pack will be indicated on your transcript as 1/3 a credit.
