24 Marcus Whitman Junior High School students competed with approximately 265 students from nine schools at the Regional History Day contest at Olympic College on Monday, March 19, 2012. The theme of History Day this year is “Revolution, Reaction, and Reform in History.” Fourteen of the Trailblazers placed in nine categories and will advance to the State History Day contest, May 5, at Bellevue College.
The winners in the Junior Division (grades 6-8): Alex Agee placed first for her performance, “Rosa Parks and the Montgomery Bus Boycott ;” Connor Anchick placed first for his website, ”The Impact of the Jet Engine in Passenger Airlines;” Nigel Keating placed second for his website, “The Coercive or Intolerable Acts: Britain’s Reaction to the Boston Party;” Moriah Graziani and Mary Sprague placed first for their exhibit, “Silent Spring: Jump-Starting an Environmental Revolution;” Korie Hamilton placed third for her performance, “Sexual Revolution of the 1960s.”
The winners in the Senior Division (grades 9-12): McKenzie Bolar and Casey Campbell placed first for their website, “Japan’s Revolution: The Meiji Restoration;” Sam Grader placed first for his exhibit, “The Revolution of Genetic Engineering and the Ethical Reactions and Reforms;” Olivia Hermann placed first for her website, “The Gamma Knife: Constantly Reforming Brain Surgery;” Rachel Routh and Sean Seu placed first for their performance, “The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire: The Tragedy That Ignited a Revolution;” Nate Sawyer placed second for his documentary, “The Information Revolution: How the Social Network Has Changed the Way We Choose to Live.”
