SKHS Student Meets Olympic Gold Medalist

Matt Key (on left), a student in the SKSD’s Community Transition Program, was invited by Gold Medalist and Decathlon Champion-Ashton Eaton, to visit during a presentation he was making as a key note speaker at an Orlando, Florida convention.  When they met Ashton asked Matt, “Why did you come so far just to see me?” After a moment of ponder, Matt replied, “You’re the World’s Greatest Athlete!”   

Matt has been a track and field athlete in the District at both Sedgwick Junior High and while at South Kitsap High School.  He continues to complete in Special Olympics Track and Field events as an adult.

CTP Para-educator, Laura Lane, who knows the Eaton family, helped to make the connection between Matt and Ashton, exchanging signatures and photos of their athletic endeavors last spring as the Summer Olympics were coming into focus.
