We finished up our realistic fiction pieces and began working on some poetry. Today we brainstormed words for our alliteration poem (all beginning letters are the same). They'll be making some Creature Alliteration poems...should be fun! Then we worked on our reading. I'm testing away while the class listens to reading, reads to self, or work on building words. Children are working hard to finish up their lengthy chapter books before the end of the year.
We launched our castles unit in social studies today. The children learned a little background about castles and the medieval time period. We also began to talk about the structural pieces of a castle. The children will begin building our 3D castle tomorrow. Ask your child about the bailey, the keep, the turrets, gatehouse, drawbridge, and the environmental pieces the determined where castles were built. There really was a lot of thought put into building castles in the medieval time period. Did you know that they made the doors small and narrow so that enemies would struggle to get in?
We ended the day with some health. The children finished up their magazine about bones and muscles. Most of it was review from our science kit. We will be squeezing in one more health magazine this week. Please look for another magazine to make it's way home later this week.
